Chili paste
Amma bought some prawns yesterday and suggested making chili paste instead of throwing away the shells (is that what it’s called?). All recipes use small prawns or kunisso and we didn’t have any at home so we used roasted and ground prawn shells instead.
The recipe I used is the one over here https://rasakama.wordpress.com/2015/03/15/original-chinese-chili-paste-sri-lankan-style/ but we left out the MSG.
I did adjust the quantities to suit the amount of prawn shells I had, but decided to use 1/2 cup oil instead of 1 1/2 cups. I would recommend using 1 cup, at least, because it needs the oil. We plan on frying up some kunisso and adding it, along with some oil, into the chili paste.
I’m yet to taste it, but Amma says it’s nice and spicy.
